In addition to the widely used branch banking systems, other distribution channels and business models for the sale of banking products are also employed in different banking systems. This paper examines whether and how existing branch banking systems in Germany can be transformed into franchise banking systems. The author analyzes the banking supervision systems in the USA, the United Kingdom, and Belgium, and their influence on the emergence of franchise banks. Successfully operating franchise banking systems from other countries are presented, along with the strengths and weaknesses of such systems. The focus of the paper is on the examination of the banking supervisory approval of a franchise banking system in Germany.
