In war and conflict zones, international and national governmental and non-governmental organizations have attempted to foster and maintain peace through education. This study examined peacebuilding educational measures and activities involved in projects across ten conflict countries (Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel/Palestine, Colombia, Northern Ireland, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan). By interpretively grouping the activities into patterns, the multitude of measures was made more comprehensible. A total of 25 patterns of measures emerged, such as peace-promoting curriculum development, intercultural and inter-community encounters, or sports for peace. For the conflict countries, a descriptive-statistical analysis was conducted to determine which peacebuilding educational measures are implemented in which constellations and contexts. The identified patterns of measures were compiled into a toolkit of peacebuilding educational measures that can be used for future project planning. Two evaluation instruments to assess the effectiveness of peace education activities—a questionnaire on attitudes and a conditions questionnaire—were developed. The instruments were tested for their usability and quality.
