The end of the East-West conflict has fundamentally changed the conditions for the actions of intelligence agencies, particularly those of Western states. This study systematically presents the new challenges faced by these security authorities. It demonstrates that not only has a changed range of tasks from intergovernmental and transnational threats confronted intelligence activities with new demands, but that the consequences of the information society challenge the traditional working methods and self-understanding of these information agencies in various ways.
