The authors discussed in this book have long been primarily regarded as sources for Roman history. In contrast, this work examines the historical concepts underlying their representations. It becomes evident that the authors combine factors that stem partly from historiographical tradition and partly from contemporary ideas into their own distinct historical narrative, to which they subject Roman history.
