In the modern information society, media reporting on criminal proceedings also includes the stage of preliminary proceedings. The preliminary proceedings are not public for reasons of personal protection and are subject to the principle of confidentiality. However, this principle is breached when the public prosecutor is obliged to inform the public under certain conditions. Under what circumstances is the public prosecutor not only entitled but even obliged to inform the public? What substantive and procedural consequences can arise from a violation of the boundaries that are binding for the media work of the public prosecutor, and what means do affected parties have to defend themselves against potential overstepping of these boundaries by the public prosecutor? The boundaries of media public relations of the public prosecutor analyze the limits imposed on the media work of the public prosecutor by the obligation to uphold the presumption of innocence and the personal rights of accused individuals.
