Product details

This volume brings together two main currents of philosophy from the 20th and 21st centuries: phenomenology, as founded by Edmund Husserl and further developed primarily by Martin Heidegger as 'hermeneutic phenomenology', and hermeneutics, particularly in the form shaped by Hans-Georg Gadamer. Both currents play a significant role in the positioning of philosophy and the humanities, which both face the challenge of scientific theory formation. The confrontation between humanistic and scientific educational claims, characteristic of the 19th and 20th centuries, has proven to be unproductive; the focus now is rather on re-establishing the dialogue between the humanities and philosophy and documenting their integrative role in such a dialogue.
