Product details

Hip-Hop has long established itself as a global pop culture phenomenon through music television and other influences. However, there are also local variations in various regions of the world that have developed their own language and forms of expression. The Romance-speaking regions within and outside of Europe, especially urban centers and their peripheries, have been significantly involved in this differentiation since the 1980s. The contributions of this volume explore stations of the global music culture of Hip-Hop in Romania. They focus on specific language and performance forms, genres, as well as political and social contexts. They draw inspiration from a variety of disciplines, including literary and linguistic studies, cultural and media studies, as well as sociology and ethnology. The emphasis of the volume is on rap music from Algeria, France, Italy, Spain, Cuba, Chile, Argentina, and Mexico.
