In his first cultural speech, Hitler programmatically demanded the ideological visualization of the Nazi state in architecture. The significance of this dictum for church construction during the Nazi era remains unclear to this day. This art-historical and ideological-critical study addresses the ideologization of sacred architecture in the Nazi period, its conceptual foundations, and architectural implementation. It demonstrates that sacred architecture was intended to visualize and affirm Nazi ideological content based on established racially-architectural teleological concepts. These can also be observed in the sacred new buildings within the study area. Ecclesiastical boundaries against the ideological usurpation by the Nazis were characterized by the struggle for the substance of form.
