Product details
On the eve of the Helvetic Revolution, some Francophile patriots in the Confederation and the associated regions developed plans for a coup to establish a new social order. This order was to be based on popular sovereignty, social justice, virtue, morality, and religiosity. Similar to Robespierre and Saint-Just in France, they pursued this goal consistently and uncompromisingly. The few Swiss Jacobins have not yet been recognized as representatives of a distinct ideological direction. This work explores whether there were genuine revolutionaries in Switzerland and whether one can speak of Jacobins. In addition to the eventful activities of the revolution supporters, their vision of an ideal social order and their violence-legitimizing revolutionary theory are presented for the first time.
