The development of the specialized fields of medicine on one hand and psychology on the other has led to a division in investigative techniques, where physical findings are assessed from a medical perspective and psychological aspects are evaluated by clinical psychology. In both areas, the development of self-perception has been neglected. A crucial component of self-experience and self-perception is the experience of the body and body image.

At the beginning of this work, thoughts on diagnostics in general and on physicality in diagnostics/psychotherapy in particular are presented. This is followed by theoretical considerations regarding working with the body as well as the concepts of body experience and body image. The core of the work is body-related diagnostics, a method that demonstrates the possibility of integrating the realm of physicality and body experience, and thus a dimension of self-perception, into personality diagnostics. Using this body-related diagnostics, twelve children and adolescents are portrayed in terms of their body images.
