Cuba is in motion. Since the upheavals of 1989/1990, a vibrant culture of debate has developed in this socialist Caribbean state. The author demonstrates through numerous examples that artists and intellectuals are at the forefront of these controversies regarding the weighting of social and political rights. Nevertheless, they are largely ignored in the discourse about Cuba. However, without considering the cultural perspective, one cannot understand the changes brought about by the Cuban Revolution and the stability of the socialist system. With this book, the author presents a study of this internal Cuban debate for the first time and arrives at surprising conclusions.
