The extensive agricultural land ownership of church corporations to this day is the result of a long development and owes its continued existence to the churches' commitment to the transferred or acquired areas. The corporations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover are, after the state, the second-largest landowners of agricultural properties in Lower Saxony, with other regional churches within the Protestant Church in Germany not far behind. In state church law, the question arises regarding the dedication and protection of this type of asset; in the area of church law, the ownership structures, administrative organization, and administrative principles are significant; from a general legal perspective, the leasehold relationships between the churches and agricultural tenants are of particular interest. Beyond purely legal questions, church owners of fields, forests, and meadows must also engage with the purpose of this form of investment and the use of the resulting income.
