Since 2009, press publishers have been demanding their own ancillary copyright. This is primarily intended to compel providers of news search engines to make payments for the so-called snippets in their result lists. Google and others replicate foreign websites and publish parts of them. There are no legal options to make this practice subject to fees. From a legal and economic analysis, it becomes clear that an absolute legal position for press publishers is also not sensible. If an ancillary copyright is introduced as planned by the government, it should adhere to the principles of intellectual property law and particularly meet the requirements of partial protection.
