The focus of the study is on the religiosity of individuals who are more or less connected to the Catholic Church today. The author analyzes entries of freely formulated intercessions and prayer requests from books of Catholic parishes in Northwestern Switzerland, as well as from a virtual prayer chapel on the internet. The author examines whether prayer request and intercession books can replace the declining practice of confession and the lack of conversations with pastoral caregivers, and how they relate to the historical practice of pilgrimage. The intercessions and requests are analyzed not only by their content but also by their addressees and reference groups. Through quotes, the author illustrates the pluralism in matters of faith that emerges from these entries, particularly the bricolage of ecclesiastical-institutional and personal beliefs. Findings on aspects such as faith and biography, everyday life and transcendence, gender and religious communication, as well as communio and taboos are summarized in separate chapters.
