Israeli, German, and American literary scholars illuminate the literary and historical significance of the mentor and patriarch of the Prague Circle in the presentations of the international symposium held in 1984 at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem to commemorate the 100th birthday of Max Brod. The studies on the key works of Max Brod's extensive oeuvre highlight his versatility as well as the ethical and philosophical principles that guided his work and life. The focus of the presentations is on the value of the author and thinker Brod, which has often been overshadowed by his role as a friend, editor, and interpreter of Kafka.
