The transfer of rituals across historical periods, societal, and religious boundaries is a new research area in Islamic studies. As migration and the resulting emergence of transnational religious communities promote such transfer phenomena, this field of research requires methodological pluralism and collaboration with other disciplines such as religious studies, sociology, and ethnology. This volume brings together the expanded contributions from the symposium 'Migration and Ritual Transfer: Religious Minorities between the Islamic World and Western Diaspora.' The conference was organized by the Islamic studies subproject 'Ritual Transfer' of the Collaborative Research Center 619 'Ritual Dynamics' at Heidelberg University. The central theme of the contributions is the transfer of rituals among Alevis, Yazidis, and Nusayris between their communities of origin and diaspora, as well as the examination of the accompanying transformations of religious practice.
