Gao Fenghan is considered part of a group of individualistic artists in 18th-century Chinese painting. He is particularly known for his wild, left-handed late works, which were already his trademark during his lifetime. This work aims to correct this one-sided understanding of the artist. The focus is on the analysis of his albums, examining the interplay of painting, poetry, and calligraphy. It highlights the complex relationships between text and image, as well as Gao's artistic achievements. The albums also serve as a confessional testament to the artist's life. The appendix includes a list of dated paintings.
