Max Gustav Lange, who was one of the school reformers in Berlin-Neukölln during the Weimar Republic, served as the editor-in-chief of the magazine Pädagogik, published in East Berlin, from 1946 to 1950. In this role, he published numerous texts in which he sought a sociological foundation for pedagogy. In the multifaceted discourse of the post-war period, he represented a Marxist orientation in educational science, building on the problem awareness of bourgeois pedagogy, which focused on understanding education as a moment of society. After leaving his position in East Germany, he became an 'unperson' in the GDR. As a result, his contributions to the development of educational theory in the GDR were lost. Their first comprehensive publication provides a specific insight into the intellectual situation of the time and honors Lange's forgotten contribution to it.
