Product details
This study presents a German original text with a Neo-Latin translation using an example from 18th-century German literature: Friedrich Wilhelm Zachariä (1726-1777) wrote four versions of his hexametric humorous epic poem Der Phaeton between 1754 and 1772. Heinrich Gottfried Reichard published his Neo-Latin translation Phaethontis libri quinque in 1780. This book contains, in parallel print, both the German and Latin texts, reception documents, insights into the four French adaptations of Phaeton, a commentary on selected (comic-)epic elements, and a metric analysis of Phaeton in light of contemporary metric manuals.
