Product details
This work examines the validity of the view that Venetian was the language of the Republic of Venice. Insights into the status and usage of Venetian can be drawn from the traces of various, already notable language contact situations involving Venetian. Additionally, documentation in Venetian is crucial. It is captured based on four development pillars, which allow for a historical understanding of the central concept of linguistic development in this work. In this way, a textual history of Venetian up to 1800 emerges, providing both an important contribution to European language history and an indispensable guide for anyone interested in Venice.
