Franz Schlegelberger was the leading figure of the German judiciary from the monarchy to the democracy of the Federal Republic of Germany. Appointed as a judge in the name of the Prussian king, he experienced the turmoil and unrest of the Weimar Republic as a state secretary. During the totalitarianism of the Third Reich, he was temporarily entrusted with the duties of the Minister of Justice and, as a convicted individual from the Nuremberg Trials after the war, fought for the restoration of his reputation and the reinstatement of his pension benefits. This work depicts Schlegelberger's life journey and his professional career. Utilizing new source material, it describes Schlegelberger's activities.
