With the LICTRA 2010, the tradition dating back to 1965 was continued, in which the Institute for Applied Linguistics and Translatology in Leipzig regularly brings together researchers from around the world for discussion and exchange of ideas. In its combination of continuity, scale, and level, this Leipzig conference is a unique event in Germany for the promotion of Translatology. The resulting conference proceedings are milestones in the fields of translation and interpreting studies. The framework themes of LICTRA often serve as indicators or stimuli for central research lines in Translatology: translation didactics, translation competence, and translation quality. With the deliberately broad framework theme of translation research, the conference aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of science and teaching in this field, especially in light of the 600th anniversary of the University of Leipzig and the 70-year history of the IALT. The 81 contributions from renowned speakers from 20 countries across all continents gathered here are an indicator and catalyst for vibrant translation research worldwide. The accompanying CD allows researchers to digitally search the PDF version of the conference papers.
