Based on the concept of graphotactics, the author develops an investigative method that allows for the systematic exploration and comprehensive disclosure of individual correspondence behavior of phonological units. This concept evaluates the idea that specific rules apply to written language regarding where certain units can occur and how, or whether, they may be connected to others. Conceptually, the method is based on the assumption that the possible occurrence of spelling variants for a phoneme is limited to specific graphic contexts. Practically, the graphotactic analysis apparatus is applied by the author to inquire about existing correspondence relationships of a phonetic unit from specific graphic contexts.
