This study analyzes, based on the functionality of the dimension "nature," both the dramaturgy of Clara Viebig's novellas and the central discursive fields that the author develops for literary interdiscourse. It becomes clear that Viebig's work conveys not a one-dimensional but an ambivalent worldview, into which a multitude of literary and ideological currents flow. "Nature" unfolds a text-constitutive added value in Viebig's novella concept, without which neither the text's dramaturgy nor the narrative level can exist. Therefore, "nature" is the decisive criterion in Clara Viebig's novella work and must be considered beyond the boundaries of the literary historical categories of naturalism and homeland art.
