The awarding of academic degrees is an important chapter in German and European university and social history. This study focuses on the graduation system at the Faculty of Law at Heidelberg University from its founding in 1386 to the present day. Specifically, it addresses the requirements for graduation, the process and costs involved, the relationship between academic degrees and legal teaching positions, the impact of epidemics and wars, the issues surrounding the awarding of degrees, and the frequency of doctoral degrees. An extensive appendix with documents and statistics serves as a supplement.
