Product details

This study analyzes the concepts of 'knowledge cultures' and 'experimental cultures' in order to approach the problem of representation through a multifactor analysis. The author argues that a theory of representation is unsuitable for understanding representation. Knowledge arises within a multitude of epistemic-cultural contexts that condition representation and interpretation. The critique of one-dimensional explanations of representation and knowledge opens pathways for epistemology and the philosophy of science to consider constructivity, subjectivity, epistemic activity, communication, and socio-cultural networks in the emergence and development of knowledge. Experimental cultures are not only theoretically analyzed in this book but are also the subject of an empirical investigation: interviews with experimenters bridge the gap from the theory of experiments to scientific practice.
