Stefan Zweig and Joseph Roth often addressed the collapses that occurred around them due to the end of the Habsburg monarchy and the terror of National Socialism, which ultimately reached them as well. This work is guided by the question of the religious aspect and significance of the works of these two writers, specifically through the biblical figures of suffering, Job and the prophet Jeremiah. From this specific reference, a completely new characterization of these two writers emerges: their works gain ancient weight while also presenting pressing relevance.
