The Maybug Sumsemann has a tough time: recently widowed, he still doesn't know how to get back his sixth little leg, which was once chopped off from his ancestor and has been missing from all Sumsemanns since then, as the night fairy accidentally conjured it to the moon. But then he meets the sibling pair Peterchen and Anneliese, and together with them, he embarks on an adventurous journey to the stars to retrieve the leg. Bassewitz's enchanting story "Peterchens Mondfahrt" (1915), illustrated by Hans Baluschek, is a classic of German children's literature.
