Tracing and inventorying over three centuries. The literature focusing on the history of tin figures in Germany primarily highlights the southern German workshops, particularly in Nuremberg/Fürth. This is certainly true at least for the period up to the First World War, with some limitations extending to 1945, as the old Berlin manufacturers only achieved significant economic importance for a limited time compared to their Nuremberg/Fürth competitors, even though the then Prussian and later imperial capital and its surroundings must have been a lucrative market for tin toys. Nevertheless, almost all of them ceased operations by 1918. This is likely why tin figure manufacturers from the Berlin area have been treated rather neglectfully in the relevant literature. This prompted the author Wolf Rüdiger Bonk to dedicate years to this subject.
