"Beyond Sirius" lies a distant planet that is outwardly indistinguishable from Earth. The nameless narrator of the book and a botanist are suddenly transported to this world and find themselves in the Swiss Alps. However, they soon realize that while the landscape of their new home resembles Earth, the society is entirely different. The visitors from Earth encounter a utopia where they also have their doppelgängers. There is only one language, one law, one way of living together. Wars have been eradicated, and the genders are equal. A modern utopia first appeared in 1905, with a German edition following in 1911 under the title "Beyond Sirius." Since then, the book has not been reissued – a great injustice, as this bold, complex utopian concept both in content and style deserves to be rediscovered.
