Philipp Neri (1515-1595) is one of the most original personalities at the beginning of the modern era. He was a joyful saint who, filled with the love of God, fascinated many of his contemporaries. Goethe referred to him as "my saint" during his trip to Italy. And John H. Newman wrote about him: "If there ever was a saint who disliked humbug, it was Saint Philip."
