Children develop an awareness of injustices early on - both towards themselves and others. To nurture this awareness and negotiate common rights despite existing differences, both are needed: a comprehensive compassion and the ability to generate intersubjective "truths" in democratic dialogue. What does this insight mean for cultivating a human rights consciousness in children? Is it possible to cultivate rational dialogue skills and compassion in parallel, or do they perhaps even depend on each other? The aim of this book is to design a dialogical perspective pedagogy that understands the cultivation of individual or cultural identity not against, but with and through others. Identity formation is part of political culture and involves a generalized shift in perspective.
