This book serves as a guide for the planning and implementation of computer-integrated information systems in the manufacturing industry. The first part discusses the technical possibilities for the distribution and integration of data and functions, as well as the importance of local area networks (LAN) for integration. The second chapter is dedicated to the production-oriented CIM model. It provides a detailed description of the concepts behind CIM models from research, consulting firms, and providers, and presents the CIM project of a large user. The third part explains the enterprise-oriented integration concepts of Computer-Integrated Logistics (CIL), Computer Integrated Business (CIB), and Computer Aided Industry (CAI), which can be seen as advancements of CIM. Building on this, an enterprise-oriented application and integration concept is introduced, based on CIB.
