In a picture magazine of the time, the legendary series of Bauhaus books from the 1920s was repeatedly mentioned in the previews. László Moholy-Nagy envisioned a critical assessment of contemporary magazine production. The typographer Joost Schmidt was to present proposals for a better, "proper" illustrated magazine. However, the idea was never realized, and thus the present publication approaches the question of how this planned Bauhaus book might have argued, in the form of a construction. Based on Moholy-Nagy's considerations on new typography and particularly on his well-known essay on the guidelines for a synthetic magazine (1925), the unfinished project is discussed against the backdrop of the Iconic Turn of that era and illustrated with numerous visual examples. The Erfurt exhibition will be original.
