Product details
On June 13, 1953, the Federal Council approved the participation of Swiss delegates in monitoring the ceasefire and in the repatriation of prisoners of war in Korea. This decision came at a time when Swiss diplomacy was initiating an activation of its neutrality policy with the aim of freeing Switzerland from the isolation it had fallen into at the end of World War II and integrating it into the new geopolitical system. The present work places Switzerland's mission in Korea in its historical context. It analyzes and evaluates the engagement from two perspectives: as a contribution to the Korean ceasefire and as an expression of neutrality policy in the spirit of neutrality and solidarity.
