Product details

Henri Michaux (1899-1984) is one of the most significant poets of 20th-century France. He is also regarded as one of the most important visual artists of the European post-war period, thanks to his delicate, quiet, and hallucinatorily fine oeuvre. True dual talents, such as poets who paint or artists who write, are rare. Michaux was undoubtedly one such talent. His work continues to be read and admired or collected in museums today. Even rarer is it for such a poet to comment on their artistic work. This is precisely what happens here. Michaux explains how and why he began drawing, what occurs in the process, and he has included his own images in the book. These should not be seen as illustrations of the text but rather as coloristic gestures that punctuate the body of the text.
