Fifty years later, Frau Fischer (1903-1988) recorded her memories of this brief, extremely turbulent, and also painful time. She describes the shared, dadaistically humorous evenings with Picabia and Ray, as well as the many encounters with Kiki de Montparnasse, Constantin Brancusi, Jean Cocteau, Robert Desnos, Jacques Doucet, and other personalities. Her first romantic experiences with the beau galant are also mentioned, all without resentment or feelings of revenge. This remarkable document remained strangely unpublished for decades. We are now presenting it in German translation, along with a highly informative afterword by the great Duchamp specialist Herbert Molderings. This brief episode of marriage has been almost entirely omitted or only cursorily addressed in the margins of nearly all Duchamp biographies for decades. It raises important questions.
