On July 25, 1918, Franziska zu Reventlow fell off her bicycle in Locarno. After an emergency operation, she died early in the morning on July 26, 1918, from heart failure at the age of 47. Line by line, she had earned her meager living, translating at a fast pace, but also as an author of mostly autobiographical novels. She found it irresponsible to pass by men she was attracted to.
