Matuschek is forty when his mother, with whom he shared the house, passes away. Without her care, he doesn't know how to move forward. He doesn't have a wife, and from where he lives, people leave when they can. But Matuschek is one who stays, a resident of the hinterlands, a world long abandoned by everyone. Fortunately, there are neighbors. Igor, the Russian, becomes a friend. He has known the old Witt since his youth. And then there are the pigeons, which Matuschek received as a boy and has been breeding ever since. Homing pigeons have an internal compass and always return home. That might be enough for a life. When Matuschek meets Irina, happiness seems to beckon. But then something goes wrong, and he starts anew. "Nach Onkalo" depicts a world on the edge, where the big questions remain just as pressing: what holds people together and how one finds happiness. Matuschek contemplates these questions.
