Product details
The Andrei Sakharov Bridge (Dutch: Andrej Sacharovbrug) spans the Nederrijn River in the Dutch city of Arnhem, which is the northwestern arm of the Rhine in the Rhine-Meuse Delta. The post-tensioned concrete structure, opened in 1987, carries the Provincial Road N325, which connects to the A12 and N348 via the Velperbroek interchange in the north of Arnhem. Heading south, the N325 initially leads to Nijmegen and, after the border, continues as Federal Highway 9 to Kleve. The structure is officially named after the Russian nuclear physicist, Nobel laureate, and dissident Andrei Dmitrievich Sakharov. Occasionally, the bridge is also referred to by the name of the road it carries, Pleijbrug or Koningspleijbrug. These names originate from the area called Kleefse Pleij, located at the junction of the IJssel and the Nederrijn.
