The volume contains essential contributions from Félix Guattari to the theory of globalized capitalism. In direct reference to Marx, Guattari developed the concept of integrated global capitalism in the late 1970s. Largely independent of the division between East and West, he conceptualizes capital as a semiotic operator that, on one hand, leads to the development of novel forms of representation for circulating capital (loans, stocks, electronic money) and, on the other hand, serves the cultural and linguistic integration of labor into the production process. At the culmination of these semiotizations, information emerges as a factor of production - as the final stage of homogenization on a planetary scale, associated with the formation of cybernetic capital.
