Product details

In every urban design and in every intervention in the spatial structure of public urban spaces, the question arises regarding the composition and spatial qualities of squares. How are the essential elements involved: dimension, proportion, orientation, enclosure, access points, focal and edge formations, as well as surfaces and materials? How do they contribute to the character of an urban space that invites identification from its residents? For current designs, comparing with historical examples supports the understanding of spatial effects. Similar to a floor plan atlas for buildings, the square atlas allows for the assessment of spatial conditions for movement and stay based on comparable existing squares. For most contextual factors (shape, size, location, topography, etc.), planners can find a comparative example here.
