Angelika Mertens, born on October 11, 1952, in Harsefeld, is a German politician of the SPD. From 2000 to 2005, she served as Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Transport, Building, and Urban Development. After completing her secondary education, Angelika Mertens trained as a bookseller and subsequently worked as a library employee. She later pursued further education at the University of Economics and Politics in Hamburg, graduating as an economist. After that, she worked at a German-foreign meeting center in Hamburg. She then served as an advisor at the Youth Office of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. After not running for the Bundestag again in 2005, she has been the chairwoman of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Hamburg since 2006 and has been the chairwoman of the supervisory board of ASB Sozialeinrichtungen Hamburg GmbH since 2009.
