Among the most beautiful poison dart frogs are the chocolate-brown, white-spotted Marañón tree frogs (Excidobates mysteriosus) from Peru. These attractive, rare in the wild, and highly endangered amphibians are regularly bred in zoological institutions. They are also sought after as terrarium pets in private hands as part of a global conservation breeding project. In their beautifully illustrated book, the three authors, biologists and long-time keepers, share their experiences with these wonderful tree frogs and provide numerous tips for successful breeding. The two other representatives of the genus are also presented in detail: the black-colored, strikingly red and yellow-spotted Río-Santiago tree frog (Excidobates captivus) from Peru and the still little-known Cóndor tree frog (Excidobates condor) from southern Ecuador.
