Product details
"Grant Park," the third novel by Pulitzer Prize-winning Miami Herald columnist Leonard Pitts Jr., takes place at two of the most significant moments in American history: on the day of Obama's election as president in the fall of 2008 and during the Memphis strike that led to the assassination of Martin Luther King in 1968. The two events converge in Malcolm Toussaint, the celebrated columnist for the Chicago Post. At 60 years old, he is completely disillusioned. His wife has passed away. A reader has insulted him with the N-word. Another black teenager has been shot by the police. It is election day. Barack Obama may win the presidency. Overwhelmed by despair, Toussaint sneaks a column onto the front page of his newspaper past the editorial staff, which is more provocation than commentary. He writes that he is tired of the bullshit.
