This festschrift, on the occasion of the retirement of University Professor Wolfgang Northemann, addresses topics that he has engaged with as a university lecturer throughout his teaching and research career, thereby attempting to reflect the breadth of his work. Colleagues, some of whom have been in scientific exchange with him for decades and feel personally connected to Wolfgang Northemann, were willing to reflect on his work and ideas in their own individual ways under the overarching theme "Political Education in Transition." As a university lecturer in the field of didactics for middle school at the University of Education and as a committed representative of social studies didactics at the Technical University of Berlin, Wolfgang Northemann has shaped teaching practice and subject-specific didactic theory.
