World and human images, whether of secular or religious provenance, do not fulfill their universal or absolute claims, just as they are unable to provide ultimate reasons. This destabilizes political ontology. Political philosophy then analyzes political thought and political events using hermeneutic methods as an event - the guiding concept of contemporary philosophy. In doing so, political philosophy relies on the hermeneutic ontology of Nietzsche, Heidegger, and Gadamer, on the psychoanalytic hermeneutics of Freud and Lacan, as well as on the philosophy of language of Wittgenstein, Austin, and Derrida. Politics proves to be, following Arendt, an interpretative event that embodies an ethical will to power within the concept of responsibility, driven by a medial and technical desire. To what extent can the weakened political ontology be re-stabilized in hermeneutic modernity, when it inevitably strays onto ironic paths?.
