A turn towards narrative can be observed in the political public sphere and in social science research practices. The central importance of narratives in the communication of meaning in human interaction is hardly disputed anymore. However, it remains unclear what implications and practical research consequences this has for political science. The authors propose various ways to conceptualize narratives and to identify them in political practice. Political narratives can be found not only in literature or images but also in diverse legitimization strategies and power techniques of political actors. The aim is to develop an awareness of the mode of storytelling in everyday politics and to recognize political narratives as a key category for political science.
