Product details

The Bhagavad Gita is part of the great Indian epic Mahabharata, attributed to the legendary Vyasa. This poetic and philosophical work is believed to have been created around 500 BC. Together with the classical Upanishads and the Brahmasutra, it forms the 'Triple Science of Vedanta' (Prasthanatraya). Emerging during a time of conflict and new internal demands on the Indian people, the Bhagavad Gita helped to keep alive the flame of Upanishadic knowledge by exploring the absolute values of reality and resolving the philosophical and spiritual disputes of that era, conveying the unity of truth in its diverse aspects and thus enabling all beings to find the path suitable for them without conflicting with the teachings. The significance of the Gita is immense, considering that it is based on the action that underlies life and from which no one can escape. It reveals the secret of 'acting without acting' in a world permeated by movement and discord. From this perspective, it is particularly crucial for the Western individual, who tends to lean more towards action than contemplation. Raphael's commentary unfolds along a psychological, philosophical, and initiatory thread with special reference to the initiation of the Ksatriya (the societal order of lawmakers and warriors). In certain aspects, Raphael states, we are all Ksatriyas, as we engage in a sometimes unequal struggle between knowledge (vidya) and ignorance (avidya). The Bhagavad Gita pins us to our responsibility and unavoidable duty (dharma) to understand ourselves, transform ourselves, and transcend ourselves.
