The hermetic formula is also applicable to Kashmir Shaivism: 'And just as everything originates from the One, through the thought of the One, so too does everything that has come into being arise from this One through adaptation.' The person who has matured through many lives recognizes this truth 'in an instant'; a small hint from the teacher is enough, and they realize the fundamental essence of being in an overwhelming experience. Others require a path of practice. The Shiva Sutras offer such a three-tiered path, suitable for the highly prepared, but also for moderately advanced individuals and even for those who still struggle to concentrate. This lowest level can be compared to the yoga of Patanjali. The Shiva Sutras are the most well-known and significant work of Kashmir Shaivism.
